Lameness
Lameness and loss of performance ability are some of the most frustrating and common problems horse owners encounter. Whether your horse performs at an elite level or lives a quiet life, lameness limits activity and effects quality of life. Key elements for avoiding discomfort and decreased performance due to lameness are:
- Accurate Diagnosis.
- Treatment.
- Prevention.
We understand that your goals and expectations are important considerations when dealing with any horse health issue. We work closely with you when developing a treatment approach.
As veterinarians, our goal is to return the horse to soundness. Having an accurate diagnosis is important to developing an appropriate plan to help your horse recover. To accomplish this, we offer lameness evaluations and advanced-diagnostics including digital radiography, digital ultrasound, and gene analysis for muscle disorders.
For your horse’s recovery, we work with you to establish a detailed rehabilitation plan. When appropriate, we utilize advanced therapeutic care such as IRAP (Interleukin Receptor Antagonist Protein), PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma), and stem cell therapy, or our state-of-the-art cold therapy Game Ready Equine system. All these care methods can be done on the farm.
Evergreen Equine Veterinary Practice has excellent relationships with regional equine health care practices and hospitals that offer procedures that cannot be done on the farm. These include MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), nuclear scintigraphy (bone scan), orthopedic surgery, and intense rehabilitation such as swimming and hyperbaric medicine.
We also support local veterinarians who provide complementary services such as equine chiropractic, acupuncture, and massage therapy. We work closely with horse owners and the referral center to coordinate these procedures to ensure the highest quality rehabilitation care once the horse is back home.
VersaTron® Shock Wave therapy
Shock waves are high-energy sound waves which are direct to the affected area. Shock wave treatment works by triggering the body’s own repair mechanisms, helping the body to heal. Shock wave technology from Sanuwave therefore provides a long-term improvement. In human medicine, shock wave treatment has been performed for over 20 years to treat a number of urologic and orthopedic conditions in a non-invasive manner.
VersaTron® utilizes electrohydraulic technology to produce shock waves. With this technology, a shock wave is generated at a spark source and is then focused to the target treatment area. The electrohydraulic technology as used in VersaTron® is the only type of shock wave technology that results in shock waves at the focus point for all energy settings.
